Master Class

In an age of digital wizardry, old-school photography, where things remained untampered with, never ceases to amaze. I've just discovered the Hungarian photographer André Kertész, whose time in Paris (1925-1936) and New York (1936-1985) provided some incredible images, not least for the times they were in. Apparently, he would wander the streets of Paris and NY, taking pictures of passersby, the original street photographer.

(The above have all be attributed to André Kertész)

Faking it

Speaking of luurve, another awesome magazine (this time online and free), I Love Fake, has a cool mix of alternative fashion, illustraion, art and international culture. And a cover model with green hair. Enormous heart.

(Check out the Dia de los Muertos shoot by Michael Flores)

Love is in the air

My new(est) favourite magazine is I Love You, the print version of Berliner Christiane Bordner's blog. Printed on high quality newsprint, there's no junk, just thought provoking quotes, interesting interviews and quirky fashion and it's empowering to women, as opposed to being just another vehicle for impossible expectations. I love you too.

East side

After a weekend in London, I'm a fan of East-enders.. Late night/early morning bagels on Brick Lane, flowers and hats on Columbia Road and The Flagship All Saints. Tick tick tick!

Colour bomb

French painter Francoise Neilly certainly packs a punch with her eye-popping, colour saturated portraits. Using a trowel, she applies her neon colour palette with extraordinary precision, creating work both intimate and intense. Statement guaranteed, sunglasses optional.

The Piano

Another incredible set piece from Vogue Italia shot by Miles Aldridge (March 2010), piano lessons never looked so good..

Gently does it

In an age where the days of old-school print media are supposedly numbered, there are a surprising number of new fashion related magazines popping up. The latest offering is The Gentlewoman, a bi-annual magazine focused on "inspirational international" women.

With a debut cover featuring Pheobe Philo in Céline shot by David Sims, and contributors such as Alidair McLellan and Willy Vanderperre it looks set to be the "sartorial and intelligent perspective", on shelves since 22nd March.

Industrial Action

New publication INDUSTRIE magazine is "the first and only media title dedicated to presenting an independent, in-depth look at the fashion industry". With an intriguing cover of Ms Wintour herself, this looks set to be the insider's guide to the rag trade with an all star cast. Get set for the "culture of the fashion" on newstands around the world from 24th May.

Trust me, I'm a Doctor

We've all had em. If you haven't, you weren't around in the 80s. I still have mine from when I was twelve, and they still fit! Dr Martins are celebrating 50 years of counter-culture with ten artists singing ten cover tracks, with ten videos featuring the beautiful boot. From The Duke Spirit's If The Kids are United to Dam Funk's, Thing's that Dream's Are Made Of, there's something for everyone, just like the Docks themselves.

We're holding out for Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's version of The Pogue's Dirty Old Town.. release date 30th April but no sign yet.

Small Talk

Roll up roll up as two online fashion heavyweights to get down to business. Dazed Group editorial director Jefferson Hack gets chatty with Business of Fashion founder and editor Imran Amed on Thursday 29th April at 7pm in the Sanderson Hotel, London. Completely sold out, the talk will however be streamed live on various fashion blogs, including one of my favourites, Fashion156.com
